Dubai's DXB Named World's Busiest International Airport
The prestigious airport also achieved second place for the first time in terms of overall passengers.
After collecting data from over 2,600 airports across more than 180 countries and territories worldwide, the Airports Council International (ACI), an international organisation that assesses airport standards and showcases the dynamic shifts in the global aviation sector, declared that Dubai International (DXB) has maintained its status as the world's busiest international airport for the 10th consecutive year in 2023.
Beating out fierce global competition – including London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Istanbul and Doha – DXB attributes its decade-long success to collaborations with multiple airlines, which expanded the airport’s connectivity, as well as dedication to enhancing the airport experience for travellers.
“Throughout this decade, DXB has surpassed many records and attained numerous milestones, from welcoming our billionth passenger to introducing new terminals and facilities,” Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, shares with SceneTraveller. “Together, we have bolstered Dubai’s reputation as the premier destination, offering unparalleled travel experiences worldwide.”
In addition to claiming the title of the busiest airport in 2023, DXB also secured second place for the first time in terms of overall passengers, advancing five positions from its 2022 ranking, only trailing behind Atlanta (ATL) in the US.
