Egypt to Set Clocks Back to Winter Time Starting October 31st

This seasonal time change marks a continuation of Egypt's energy-saving efforts as winter approaches.

Cairo Scene

In a bid to reduce energy consumption during the winter, Egypt will officially switch to winter time next Thursday, October 31st, moving clocks back one hour at midnight. This shift will change the country's time zone from GMT+3 to GMT+2, aligning with the seasonal adjustment that has been in place since April.

The country first introduced Daylight Saving Time (DST) in 1957, applying it sporadically until 2014 due to electricity shortages. DST made a comeback in April 2023, with the government projecting a 10% reduction in electricity consumption as a key motivator.
