In anticipation of the 12th World Urban Forum in Cairo this November, Carlos Murano, Professor and Scientific Director of Entrepreneurship - Territory - Innovation (ETI) at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, will present a public talk titled ‘Urban Proximity Matters’. The talk will take place at the American University in Cairo's Bassily Auditorium on Wednesday, November 6th, at 6:00 PM.

Professor Murano, celebrated for his vision of the smart city and creator of the 15-minute city concept, has earned multiple honours, including the 2022 Parchemin d'Honneur from UN-Habitat, one of the world’s most prestigious awards for sustainable urban planning.

In 2023, Murano was honoured for his "outstanding contributions to knowledge, insight, and urban practice" by being inducted into the American Academy of Housing and Communities. Additionally, he was appointed as an ambassador for the Jacques Rougerie Foundation, which champions architectural innovation and artistic creation inspired by the themes of the Sea and Space.

In his concept of the 15-Minute City, Carlos Moreno presents a compelling discussion titled ‘A Solution for Saving Our Time and Our Planet’. He delves into the deceptively simple yet revolutionary idea that essential destinations - such as schools, shops and offices - should be located within a short walk or bike ride from home, enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of urban living.

Murano’s lecture is set to unveil innovative insights into reimagining urban spaces, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. His discourse will resonate with the central themes of the forthcoming WUF assembly, fostering a dialogue that challenges conventional urban paradigms and embraces transformative approaches to city living.
