Zeyne Chronicles Arab Identity with ‘7arrir 3aqlak / Asli Ana’
The double single delves into themes of individuality, heritage, and cultural identity.
Palestinian-Jordanian artist Zeyne has released a double-single featuring two tracks, ‘7arrir 3aqlak’ and ‘Asli Ana.’ Together, the songs delve into themes of individuality, heritage, and cultural identity, blending traditional and theatrical musical elements.
The first track, ‘7arrir 3aqlak’ (Free Your Mind), is a prolonged spoken-word monologue that sets the tone for the second song, ‘Asli Ana.’ In ‘Asli Ana,’ Zeyne uses heavy Levantine musical influences as a foundation to chronicle her roots and identity through a compelling vocal performance.
The release is accompanied by a visually rich short film, directed by Farid Malki, which incorporates reimagined Dabkeh choreography by Majdi Karakra. The project highlights Arab resilience and pride, fusing tradition with modernity to present a dynamic and forward-looking vision of cultural expression.
