Metro Line 3 & Basira to Provide Safety Training for Blind Passengers

The collaboration will help guide the visually impaired through the metro system, from ticket purchase to station arrival.

Cairo Scene

Cairo Metro Line 3 has collaborated with the Basira Foundation to provide specialized training for blind passengers. The initiative aims to help individuals with visual impairments navigate the metro system independently and safely.

The training program focuses on enabling passengers with visual impairments to confidently navigate their metro journeys - from purchasing tickets to reaching their destinations. Participants are taught how to use various facilities provided by the metro, including identifying ticket counters, accessing station gates, and navigating the platform with the help of voice-assisted services. These services include audio announcements about train arrival times and upcoming stations, which are vital for passengers with visual impairments.

During the training session, a delegation of blind trainees was guided through the entire metro process. This includes the experience of buying tickets, finding their way through the stations, and ensuring safety as they move through entry and exit points. The trainers, supported by the company’s team, also provided advice on how to identify the end of the platform and how to be aware of the metro’s arrival.

The collaboration between Metro Line 3 and Basira Foundation is part of ongoing efforts by the Cairo Metro Authority (RATB) to improve accessibility.
