Electric Car Factory to Be Established in Egypt With Chinese Support
Set to commence production by late 2025, the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will be located on a 120,000-square-metre site.
In a bid to enhance industrial capabilities across Egypt, Alkan Auto Company has signed an agreement with China's BAIC Company to establish a new electric car manufacturing hub in Egypt.
The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will be located on a sprawling 120,000-square-metre site and is expected to commence production by late 2025. This initiative aims to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles within Egypt and position the country as a key exporter to the Middle East and Africa. The initial production target is set at 20,000 vehicles in the first year, with ambitious plans to ramp up production to 50,000 units by the fifth year of operation.
A notable aspect of this project is its commitment to local production, with 48% of components sourced domestically. The initiative plans to increase this figure to 58% over time, reinforcing the government’s strategy to foster local industry and create job opportunities. The manufacturing hub is anticipated to generate approximately 1,200 jobs.
