Petroleum Logistics Zone at Al-Hamra Port Is Now Underway
Established in partnership with the UAE, the logistics zone aims to enhance Egypt's role in regional petroleum trade.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the Government of Fujairah, UAE, has started implementing an agreement to establish a petroleum logistics zone at Al-Hamra Port on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. The project began with the arrival of the first oil tanker at Egyptian ports, marking the operational start of the cooperation.
The agreement, signed in August 2024, aims to enhance Egypt's role in the regional petroleum trade by leveraging its strategic location and existing infrastructure. The agreement was signed in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineer Karim Badawi, and Mohammed Saeed Al-Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Government Amiri Diwan.
The scope of the agreement includes transferring Fujairah’s expertise in port development to Egypt and developing the Al-Hamra Port into a logistics hub for handling petroleum products. This initiative will also help supply petroleum to meet part of Egypt’s domestic demand.
