Saudi Arabia Up 22 Ranks in World Bank Statistical Performance Index

The Kingdom now ranks first in the Gulf and Arab world, and 14th amongst G20 countries.

Saudi Arabia has made strides in the World Bank's National Statistical Organizations Performance Index (SPI), improving by 22 ranks in 2023. The Kingdom now ranks first in the Gulf and Arab world. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has advanced to 14th place amongst the G20 countries, up from 18th in 2022.

The World Bank’s SPI, which assesses the statistical systems of 187 countries, evaluates the maturity and effectiveness of these systems across several key areas. The index employs an updated methodology based on data spanning from 2016 to 2023. This evaluation covers over 51 indicators, focusing on aspects such as data sources, services, statistical data usage, and infrastructure.

Amongst the G20 countries, Saudi Arabia stood out, ranking in the top seven for improvements in the fifth area of the SPI. The Kingdom achieved a score of 95% in this category in 2023, reflecting its substantial progress. The advancements in statistical systems have been pivotal in ensuring the production of accurate and high-quality data.
