VibeLab, a global consulting agency dedicated to supporting creatives and preserving nighttime culture, is set to host ‘The Nighttime Lab’ program, as part of The World Urban Forum 2024 edition in Cairo on November 5th.

The World Urban Forum will run from November 5th to November 8th at Room Art Space in The Spot Mall in New Cairo, gathering city leaders, government representatives and a global community of nighttime experts to co-create knowledge and prototype innovative action models.

Brought in partnership with MDLBEAST Foundation, BMW Foundation and SceneNoise, The Nighttime Lab will bring together urban policymakers, the nightlife community, artists and cultural leaders to explore how nighttime strategies drive urban vibrancy, innovation and inclusion. The program includes fishbowl discussions, a series of live performances and a night excursion to explore Cairo’s creative spaces behind the scenes.

The event will feature two fishbowl discussions. The first one, titled ‘Urban Spaces and Social Cohesion’, will explore the role of nighttime spaces in fostering community well-being and inclusivity. The panel is moderated by Mirik Milan, co-founder of VibeLab, featuring a roster of speakers including, Nada Alhelabi (Director of MDLBEAST Foundation), Ricardo Rio, (Mayor of Braga, Portugal), Juma Assiago, (UN-Habitat Global Specialist), and Azza Sirry, (Professor of Urban Planning at HBRC Housing & Building National Research Center), amongst others.

Meanwhile, the second fishbowl discussion, titled ‘Culture And Well-Being: How Nightlife Drives Innovation And Talent Retention’, will explore how cities can leverage their nighttime economies to retain talent and foster inclusivity. The talk is moderated by Lutz Leichsenring, Co-founder of VibeLab, with speakers featuring the likes of Egyptian DJ and Co-founder, Yas Meen Selectress, and Jane Slingo, Director of Electronic Music Conference Sydney and VibeLab Asia-Pacific, amongst others.

The live performances will feature a slew of regional talents such as Saudi artist Fulana, Egyptian singer Balqeis, Saudi DJ/producer and violinist Kayan, and Egyptian selector Yas Meen Selectres.

Meanwhile, for the night excursion segment of the program, VibeLab will invite attendees on a tour, guided by urban researcher Emiko Gejic and Egyptian veteran DJ Aly Goede, to visit art galleries, music studios and cultural venues across Cairo, revealing how they contribute to the city’s vibrant nightlife and creative ecosystem.
