NEWF Launches 6-Month Photography Fellowship on African Narratives

‘Reimagining African Narratives’ is a six-month fellowship for photographers and artists to expand their lens-based projects.

Cairo Scene

Nature Environment & Wildlife Filmmakers (NEWF) has launched a new six-month photography fellowship, ‘Reimagining African Narratives’, which offers visual artists and photographers the chance to deepen their practice and engage with new storytelling strategies.

Designed to foster responsible collaboration and challenge stereotypes, the fellowship invites participants to develop impactful narratives that communicate African perspectives. Focused on editorial support and idea development, the fellowship is aimed at photographers and visual artists who are ready to expand their projects into publications, exhibitions and multimedia formats. Fellows will work alongside a team of expert mentors, including Alexa Becker from Germany, Rehab Eldalil from Egypt, and Federico Estol from Uruguay, who specialize in creating community-centered and culturally sensitive narratives.

The fellowship will equip participants with the tools to not only develop their practice but also to create work that resonates with authenticity and social responsibility. This initiative aims to provide fellows with the necessary editorial and creative support to help them present their work on larger platforms, creating a space for new visual voices from Africa to emerge.
