The policy prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open-air areas between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM.

Scene Now UAE

The UAE government announced the implementation of a midday break from June 15th to September 15th, 2024. This marks the 20th consecutive year of enforcing the policy, which prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open-air areas between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM across the UAE.

Employers violating this rule will face fines of AED 5,000 per employee, with penalties reaching up to AED 50,000 for multiple infractions. Exceptions to this policy include essential services such as water and electricity supply, traffic management, roadwork involving asphalt or concrete, and other critical services. Companies must request permits to continue operations during the restricted hours.

Employers are also mandated to provide protective materials, including parasols, shaded areas, fans, sufficient drinking water and first aid equipment for workers exposed to direct sunlight. The ministry plans to launch awareness campaigns and conduct field visits to ensure compliance with the midday break regulations.
