Marrakech Film Fest. Screens Preview of Mona Zaki’s Umm Kulthum Biopic

The film, funded by Saudi Arabia’s “Big Time” Fund and announced by Turki Alalshikh, head of the General Entertainment Authority, marks the first cinematic portrayal of the legendary Umm Kulthum.

The Marrakech Film Festival is set to showcase an 18-minute preview of the upcoming biopic Al-Sitt, starring Mona Zaki and directed by Marwan Hamed. The film, funded by Saudi Arabia’s “Big Time” Fund and announced by Turki Alalshikh, head of the General Entertainment Authority, marks the first cinematic portrayal of the legendary Umm Kulthum.

Zaki takes on the role of the iconic singer in the production, which has now completed filming. The project was shot over six months in locations including the Media Production City’s rural district and a theatre in downtown Cairo. Al-Sitt is currently in post-production.
