Marriott Bonvoy Donates USD 500,000 to World Central Kitchen
World Central Kitchen is a non-profit committed to aiding global disaster relief and nutrition support around the world.
Marriott Bonvoy and The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott (JWASM) Foundation have committed USD 500,000 to World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit founded by Chef José Andrés that provides critical meals to communities impacted by natural disasters and crises worldwide. The NGO is at the forefront of humanitarian relief, providing meals to survivors of disasters in the short-term, strengthening communities through food-centric capacity building, and empowering local chefs and volunteers to establish community kitchens and food distribution networks.
This collaboration reflects Marriott International’s long-standing partnership with WCK, offering both financial and operational support over the years. Since the Haiti earthquake disaster in 2010, Marriott and the JWASM Foundation have been supporting WCK through funding culinary training programs, from which many many graduates were hired to work at Marriott hotels. In disasters such as Hurricane Maria, which hit Puerto Rico in 2017, the company not only gave a financial donation, but also turned over the entire kitchen of Dorado Beach - a Ritz-Carlton Reserve property - to become the WCK home base for providing emergency hunger relief.
Locally, the Cairo Marriott Hotel will continue to play a pivotal role by always supporting WCK’s operations in Egypt, contributing to this vital humanitarian effort.
Marriott Bonvoy members can join the cause by participating in initiatives that go beyond the travel program’s rewards system. Members can support WCK by donating their membership points, with Marriott Bonvoy committing to match any point donation to its philanthropic partners, doubling the total donation.
