A new COP29 initiative targets doubling energy efficiency rates and reducing emissions across the UAE.

Scene Now UAE

The UAE representatives at the COP29 UN climate conference in Azerbaijan have announced the creation of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, an initiative that aims to double global energy efficiency rates annually by 2030 and significantly reduce carbon emissions. Building on the foundation of the UAE Consensus introduced at COP28, the alliance emphasizes the importance of reducing emissions and conserving natural resources, reflecting an increasing global demand for enhanced energy efficiency.

The UAE plans to take a leadership role by facilitating the exchange of best practices, promoting knowledge transfer, and fostering partnerships with the private sector. Governments, organizations, and global leaders are being invited to join the alliance to set ambitious energy efficiency targets, encourage investment in energy projects, and develop sustainable policies and technologies.

The alliance will prioritize knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the formation of public-private partnerships to achieve its objectives. Efforts will also include standardizing practices to minimize carbon emissions and resource consumption. Special attention will be directed toward African nations, where initiatives will focus on sharing best practices, providing financial support, and advancing technological solutions tailored to the region’s needs.
