Abu Dhabi Launches Plan to Control Air Quality & Noise Levels

Environment Agency Abu Dhabi has issued a resolution to monitor, improve and forecast air and poise pollution in the city.

Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) is taking its next step against pollution, with a new plan to improve air quality and reduce noise pollution simultaneously by holding industries accountable for their impact on the environment. The agency has issued a resolution declaring that all businesses and establishments that require environmental licences for operations must commit to supporting municipal efforts to ensure better air quality.

EAD has pledged to monitor air quality in Abu Dhabi using a comprehensive environmental monitoring network, which will periodically assess air pollution levels. They will also prepare and review environmental studies to demonstrate the relationship between natural sources and clean air, which will then be used to set standards for development projects. The agency has also pledged to monitor noise levels through the same monitoring network, and coordinate with the authorities to ensure maximum permissible noise limits are not exceeded.

This is all part of an initiative launched in November to reach air quality improvement goals in Abu Dhabi, and data gathered by the agency with this network will be shared with the public through daily air-quality forecasts.
