The Concept of ‘Beef or Chicken’ Takes Flight at This Restaurant

Yes, it’s an actual plane.

Fatafeet El-Share

This is SceneEats correspondent Fatafeet El-Share' reporting live from Madinet Nasr, where I really should be enjoying this char grilled chicken on Chef Nasser's plane instead of telling you about it. Alas, it's 2024 and I'm a journalist, therefore, gatekeeping is beneath me.

On an exploratory stroll through Nasr City's labyrinthine streets, a woman wearing a flight attendant's uniform caught my eye. What kind of flight attendant would be wandering down these streets at 3 PM on a random Tuesday? Intrigued, I followed her.

A few minutes later, she walked into an in inconspicuous looking restaurant. Too curious to wait around before following her in, I went up the steps only to find myself...on a plane?

The restaurant is a plane. Like, there's a central aisle and window 'tables' - and actual airplane windows? - and even the waiting staff are all dressed like flight attendants!

Right there, behind a random door in a random street in effing Madinet Nasr.

Bewildered, a waitress-flight attendant came up to me and said, "Welcome aboard Chef Nasser's plane!"

Obviously used to gobsmacked visitors, she calmly led me to a table and handed me a menu. Perusing the items - which included a slew of international dishes, ranging from lentil soup and greek salad to steak and pizza - I decided on a grilled chicken with sautéed veggies and rice.

The food, while not exceptional, was certainly satisfying. However, it is the entire experience - which includes wearing a captain's hat as you dine! - that was truly unique.

Until the next food adventure,

Fatafeet El-Share'
