Uber Teens Launches in UAE & Other GCC Countries
Uber launches its new Teens family feature in an effort to provide more safety for solo rides in the region.
Uber Teens UAE has officially debuted, offering parents the ability to create accounts for their teenagers aged 13 to 17 years old. The feature will allow teenagers to independently request Uber rides, with the hopes of providing families with enhanced flexibility while maintaining safety. By integrating live tracking and audio recording functionalities into the account, Uber allows parents to closely monitor their teens' journeys.
The setup process is streamlined through the Family Profile feature within the Uber app, where parents can invite their teens to create their own accounts, as well as complete a mandatory safety onboarding process.
The safety features embedded within Uber Teens include live trip and delivery tracking, PIN verification for each ride, and the RideCheck feature, which utilizes sensors and GPS to detect any deviations from the planned route or unexpected stops. The option for audio recording throughout the trip can serve as an additional layer of security, with files stored on the teen's device for reference if needed.
According to Uber Teens, only highly rated and experienced drivers who have undergone local screening and background checks will receive trip requests from teen account holders. Drivers also have the option to opt out of receiving teen trips at any time.
Uber Teens UAE's introduction follows its launch in California and subsequent expansion to other GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Qatar.
