Through a newly signed agreement with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UAE will provide emergency food assistance to an estimated 24.8 million people facing acute food insecurity in Sudan and South Sudan.
This aid will be directed towards refugees, host communities, internally displaced people and returnees who have been severely impacted by the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
The agreement, formalized between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and WFP, will see the UAE contribute a total of USD 25 million - USD 20 million allocated to Sudan and USD 5 million to South Sudan.
This contribution builds upon the UAE's larger commitment of USD 70 million announced earlier in April at the International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan and Neighboring Countries.
