Number of Active Mining Licenses in Saudi Arabia Reaches 2,295
In September alone, 35 new mining licenses were issued, according to the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.
In September 2024, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources issued
35 new mining licenses, bringing the Kingdom’s total active mining licenses to 2,295,
according to data released by the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information.
Most of these licenses are for quarries supplying building materials, with 1,461 issued
to date. Additionally, there are 566 exploration licenses, 203 mining exploitation and
small mine licenses, 42 prospecting licenses, and 23 surplus mineral resource licenses.
The latest permits include 24 exploration licenses, seven quarry licenses for building
materials, three reconnaissance licenses, and one mining exploitation and small mine
license.
Saudi Arabia’s mining sector has expanded rapidly, driven by Vision 2030’s objective to
develop mining as the third pillar of the national industry by unlocking the Kingdom’s
estimated SAR 9.3 trillion in mineral wealth.
