The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has implemented new measures to ensure the safety and well-being of Hajj pilgrims. Crowd control is a top priority during the annual event, with over 1.8 million Muslims participating in Hajj in 2023.

Authorities have focused their efforts on two specific groups: those entering the country on tourist visas and residents lacking proper Hajj permits. Over 153,998 individuals with tourist visas were denied participation as Hajj visas are mandatory. Additionally, authorities identified and redirected 171,587 residents within Saudi Arabia who lacked the necessary permits.

As of June 9th, over 1.3 million registered pilgrims have already arrived in the country.
