Cairo Scene

An exhibition commemorating 60 years since the death of artist Mahmoud Saïd has opened at the Aisha Fahmy Palace in Zamalek. The art exhibition, entitled ‘In the Company of Mahmoud Saïd’, was opened by the Minister of Culture and the Head of the Fine Arts Sector, and was attended by a number of Egyptian artists.

Mahmoud Saïd was born in Alexandria, and was the son of Muhammed Saïd Pasha, former Prime Minister of Egypt. A prolific oil painter, his work has been compared to that of French artist, Paul Gaugin. He is known for mixing traditional techniques of painting with more modern styles like cubism and social realism.

The exhibition sheds light on foreign artists who lived in Egypt during Mahmoud Saïd’s lifetime by presenting 75 of their works alongside 40 masterpieces of his own, as well as some work by a number of other Egyptian artists. The artists in question include Amelia Casonato De Forno, Arturo Zanieri, Giuseppe Sebasti, Laurent Salinas, Roger Breval, Aristomenis Angelopoulos, Aristide Papageorge, Clea Badaro, Charles Boeglin, Enrico Brandani, Carlo Soares, Paul Richard, Louis Julien, and Joseph Mizrahi.

The exhibition is open at Center of Arts at Aisha Fahmy Palace until October 15th every day from 9 AM to 2 PM, and 5 PM to 9 PM, except on Fridays.
