First Day of Ancient Egyptian Exhibition in Germany Sold Out
The ‘Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs’ exhibition has opened in Cologne, after landing in the US, France and Australia.
The ‘Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs’ exhibition is officially open in Cologne, Germany, at the ODYSSEUM Hall. This is the fifth stop on the exhibition’s international tour, following Houston and San Francisco in the US, as well as Paris and Sydney. The exhibition has seen a significant turnout at all locations since its initial opening.
Thousands of visitors from all over Germany have queued for hours to see the 180 artefacts and treasures of King Ramses II in person. The opening day had sold-out entirely, with 35,000 tickets overall having been sold so far.
The collection features a curated selection of pieces from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, as well as the sarcophagus of King Ramses II himself, temporarily transferred from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation (NMEC). Other artefacts on display include pieces uncovered by the Egyptian mission in the Bubastis area of Saqqara.
The items in the exhibition highlight the distinct features of ancient Egyptian civilisation between the Middle Kingdom and the Late Period, such as statues, jewellery, cosmetic tools, inscribed stone blocks and painted wooden coffins.
