Egyptian Referee Mahmoud Ashour Chosen to Officiate at Paris Olympics
Ashour has previous Olympic experience, having refereed at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games.
Egyptian football official Mahmoud Ashour has been selected by FIFA to referee matches at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris this summer, as one of 20 match officials announced by the world football governing body on April 3rd.
Having been a professional referee since 2011, Ashour was previously chosen to officiate at the Tokyo Summer Games in 2020. His experience also extends to the African Cup of Nations, for which he was part of the VAR team for the 2024 Cup Final between Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
Ashour won’t be the only Egyptian representative for the Olympics’ football tournament. The Pharaohs Under-23 are also on the roster, having been placed in Group C alongside Spain, the Dominican Republic, and an Asian team yet to be determined in qualifiers.
