Egypt Rejects Israeli Control of Philadelphi Corridor
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed their rejection of Netanyahu’s recent claims over the Philadelphi Corridor.
In an announcement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty rejected Israeli claims of control over the Philadelphi Corridor, also known as the Salah El-Din Axis. Abdelatty further stressed that Egypt will not accept any other alternative to the Egyptian-Palestinian crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
Abdelatty’s comments come after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently affirmed the Israeli cabinet’s decision to retain their forces on the Egypt-Gaza border after the end of their assault on Gaza.
Egypt has rejected claims by Israel that weapons and ammunition are smuggled into Gaza from the Egyptian side, with Diaa Rashwan, head of the State Information Service, stating that more than 1,500 tunnels between Egypt and Gaza have been destroyed, and that Egypt has strengthened the border wall, reinforcing the border with a concrete wall measuring six-metres high and six-metres underground.
Israel established control over the Corridor on May 29th, and the issue has since become a focal point in ceasefire negotiations.
A ceasefire plan introduced by the US government on May 31st calls for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Egypt-Gaza border.
Since October 7th, the Israeli forces have officially killed and injured over 130,000 Gazan men, women, and children in their genocidal incursion into Gaza.
