Dr. Nazir Ayyad Appointed as Grand Mufti of Egypt
Dr. Ayyad was nominated for the position of Grand Mufti by long-serving Sheikh of Al Azhar, Dr. Ahmed el-Tayeb.
The Presidency has issued a decree naming Dr. Nazir Ayyad as the new Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt for a four-year term. Dr. Ayyad is the secretary-general of the Islamic Research Academy, and was nominated for the position of Grand Mufti by long-serving Sheikh of Al Azhar, Dr. Ahmed el-Tayeb.
After pursuing a bachelor's degree specialising in philosophy and Islamic theology in 1995, Dr. Ayyad went on to obtain a masters degree in philosophy and Islamic theology in 2000. He got his doctorate with first class honours in 2003. Dr. Ayyad has held professorships in the Department of Osol el Din at Mansoura University as well as at the Department of Aqidah and Philosophy at Kafr el Sheikh’s Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies for Girls.
Dr. Ayyad will succeed the incumbent Dr. Shawki Allam, becoming the 20th Grand Mufti of Egypt.
