The 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) is set to take place in Cairo from November 4th to November 8th, marking the first time the forum has been hosted on the continent of Africa since its founding session in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002.

The forum is convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and is held every two years. It is ranked as the second most important UN meeting after the Climate Summit.

The World Urban Forum was founded by the UN in 2001 to address the crisis of rapid urbanisation and its adverse effects on societies and communities.

This year’s theme is entitled ‘It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities’, and will focus on localising the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and address curbing global challenges such as lack of affordable housing, rising living costs and climate change.
