The Palestinian Maqam Ensemble will make their Egypt debut at the Cairo Opera House on March 25th.
Formed in Gaza with the purpose of preserving the Palestinian identity through musical performance, the ensemble’s compositions mix traditional music with contemporary styles through the use of traditional takht instruments and Western instruments. Preserving the Palestinian artistic spirit and identity in a modern style, this group has participated in several festivals, including Butterfly Effect. The group has also performed at the Al-Qattan Cultural Center and Gaza’s French Cultural Center.
This concert was organized to foster international communication as part of a collaboration between the Palestinian embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Foreign Cultural Relations Sector. The concert is part of the Cairo Opera House’s Arab and Islamic Evenings series, which will continue throughout Ramadan.
