Free Entry to Naguib Mahfouz & Umm Kulthum Museums Until May 20th
The museums will be free to enter in celebration of International Museum Day, which is held annually on May 18th.
The Cultural Development Fund has announced a special opportunity for visitors to explore the Naguib Mahfouz Museum and the Umm Kulthum Museum free of charge from May 8th until May 20th. During this period, visitors can enjoy complimentary admission to the museums from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
This initiative is organised in celebration of International Museum Day, an annual event observed globally around May 18th. Established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums, this day serves to raise awareness about the vital role museums play in community development. Each year, International Museum Day focuses on a specific theme that sheds light on key issues facing museums worldwide.
This year's theme, ‘Museums for Education and Research’, underscores the essential role cultural institutions play in providing comprehensive educational experiences. The Naguib Mahfouz Museum, situated behind the Al-Azhar Mosque, pays homage to the life and contributions of Egyptian Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, while the Umm Kulthum Museum, located in Al Manial, commemorates the enduring legacy of the Egyptian musical icon Umm Kulthum.
