Cairo International Art District Fuses Downtown History With Modernity
The Cairo International Art District immerses viewers in the city’s history and contemporary artistic heritage.
The Cairo International Art District will take over Downtown Cairo from October 10th to the 30th. The immersive artistic experience, taking after the theme of ‘Chronicles of Cairo’, aims to showcase Downtown Cairo’s historic and diverse heritage sites, including its cafes, residential buildings and pharmacies.
This year’s edition seeks to highlight the deep connection between artists and the historic neighbourhood, and the ways in which artists are affected by their environments and vice versa.
Three sub-exhibitions will feature a number of installations including paintings, sculptures and video installations. ‘Documented’ explores the relationship between documentation and artistic expression, and ‘The City Exhibition’ offers immersive experiences celebrating the creativity, fortitude and traditions of the city’s citizens. Meanwhile, ‘Women Written by Women Exhibition’ features a number of women artists, highlighting their role in the city’s broader artistic movements.
The exhibitions will feature works from a diverse group of artists hailing from Egypt, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the UK, Italy, Lebanon and France, amongst others.
