Egyptian Drug Authority Announces Digitisation of Medical Bulletins

The new system will facilitate the circulation of instant information updates on pharmaceuticals to doctors and patients.

Cairo Scene

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has confirmed plans to digitise information pamphlets that accompany any pharmaceutical drug, converting the lengthy existing paper documents into electronic documents. The EDA explained that medicine packages will soon come with an accompanying QR code, allowing for quick and accurate readings of all information pertaining to each drug.

The digitisation project has already been rolled out amongst a number of medical entities participating in a trial run, streamlining the process as the EDA continues to undergo a paperless digital transformation. With the new electronic pamphlets, both patients and doctors are provided with a full suite of information on each drug, noting general information, dosage, and potential side effects.

The digital format also improves the ease of updating medical information included with a drug, should new findings on side effects or other key areas be made.
