Mobile internet use rose by 74% by the end of Ramadan 2024 compared to last year's Ramadan season, while landline internet use rose by 29%, according to a recent report by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority. The data suggests that this surge is the result of 9 million new users of mobile internet services and 800,000 new users of landline internet services.

According to the same report, people watching short videos over apps like TikTok and Likee rose by 41%. Taking Egypt's population into consideration, over 10 million hours per day were spent watching these kinds of videos.

Use of streaming apps and platforms like Netflix and WatchIt rose by 41%, with a combined total of 14 million hours per day spent on them.

The use of navigation services like Google Maps and Waze went up by 81% compared to last year, with about 58 million searches for destinations every day.

By contrast, social media platforms saw a 20% decrease in use compared to last year's Ramadan season, while online shopping through apps and websites like Amazon and Jumia fell by 3%.
