Abu Dhabi is undertaking the region's largest plant life study with the deployment of drones equipped with advanced sensors. This initiative, led by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) in collaboration with consultancy Dendra Co., aims to assess vegetation cover within and outside protected areas across the emirate.
The research, conducted by a team of Emirati professionals, will track changes in plant life due to human activity and environmental factors, focusing on plant diversity and distribution. The project involves comprehensive fieldwork covering 11,000 hectares, marking a significant effort to understand and address environmental pressures such as climate change.
EAD has integrated AI and drone technology to enhance the efficiency of the study, significantly reducing costs and time compared to traditional methods. Additionally, drones will be used to disperse seeds of local plant species, aiding in conservation efforts.
