ADNOC to Introduce Autonomous AI Into UAE’s Energy Industry
In partnership with UAE-based G42, Microsoft, and AIQ, ADNOC will implement agentic AI, which autonomously performs tasks and drives efficiency.
In partnership with UAE-based G42, Microsoft, and AIQ, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced plans to integrate autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy sector, making it the first in the region to implement agentic AI, a groundbreaking technology that autonomously performs tasks and drives efficiency.
Agentic AI is viewed as a revolutionary frontier in artificial intelligence, capable of autonomously analyzing vast amounts of data and making real-time adjustments to improve operations. ADNOC’s deployment will capitalize on this technology to optimize its processes, reduce costs, and significantly accelerate project timelines. For example, seismic surveys—a crucial step in assessing oil and gas reservoirs—will see their time frames reduced from months to days. Moreover, the technology promises to boost production forecast accuracy by up to 90%, marking a major advancement in resource management and predictive analysis.
The UAE’s commitment to AI is backed by substantial investment, with G42, the government-backed technology company, receiving a USD 1.5 billion infusion from Microsoft earlier this year to support its ambitions. This funding aims to reinforce the UAE's push to develop a self-sustaining tech sector, attracting advanced technologies that could eventually benefit global industries. In recent years, the UAE has poured billions into AI projects, including the development of Arabic and Hindi language chatbot applications comparable to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
