Restoration of Sheikh al-Sha’rawi's Tomb Ordered After Sewage Flood
The project will not only focus on repairing the damage caused by the sewage overflow, but also on enhancing the overall site.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has tasked the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority with the immediate restoration of the tomb of Sheikh Muhammad Metwalli al-Sha’rawi. The order follows the sudden malfunction in the sewage system in the Daqadous area of Dakahlia Governorate, which led to significant flooding at the tomb and the surrounding cemetery. Visitors to the site reported finding sewage water rising over 5 centimetres, and despite the immediate efforts by both visitors and workers to remove the water, the flooding resumed, threatening to submerge the tomb entirely. The restoration project, led by the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority, will not only focus on repairing the damage caused by the sewage overflow, but also on enhancing the site's resilience against future incidents.
