XP Conversations - Wassim Bou Malham - Making Modern Arabic Club Music

In this XP Conversation Wassim Bou Malham talks about looking towards the future of Arabic music in his project Gharam Electric.

Scene Noise

Through his work with Lebanese clubbing giants Factory People, the company behind regional staples Grand Factory and AHM, Wassim Bou Malham has played a prominent role in developing the world-class quality of Beirut’s nightlife. And as the driving force behind Futuro-Arab project Gharam Electric, Bou Malham has also broken ground by exploring the fundamental elements of Arabic music through the context of contemporary pop and EDM.

In this XP Conversation, we sat down with Bou Malham to talk about the realities of the regional clubbing scene, and how he tries - both through his original releases, and the music selection he plays in his DJ sets - to offer a different take on Arabic music. Wassim’s take is detached from folkloric associations, and rather looks towards the future of Arabic music while staying true to the cultural elements that speak to him on a personal level.
