Three new exhibitions have been announced by Louvre Abu Dhabi for the museum’s upcoming season starting this September, covering diverse themes alongside educational workshops, interactive installations, and a programme of events.

The first to open will be Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2024, curated by Simon Njami, renowned independent curator, lecturer, writer, and art critic. Opening on September 20th, the exhibition is inspired by the concept of Awakenings. As well as the exhibition itself, a jury panel will also select one artist as the recipient of the Richard Mille Art Prize in December, in partnership with the luxury Swiss watchmakers. The exhibition will run until December 15th.

Opening on October 16th, Louvre Abu Dhabi will also host an exhibition on post-impressionism in partnership with Paris’ Musée d’Orsay, titled ‘Beyond Appearances’. Tracing the years of the post-impressionist movement from 1886 to 1905, the new exhibition features important examples of the artistic innovation of those two decades, including Vincent van Gogh's masterpiece, ‘Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles’. The exhibition is curated by Jean-Rémi Touzet, conservator for paintings at the Musée d'Orsay, and Jérôme Farigoule, Chief Curator at Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The final exhibition to open will be ‘Kings and Queens of Africa: Forms and Figures of Power’, launching on January 29th 2025 in partnership with Musée du Quai Branly. Running until May 25th 2025, the exhibition celebrates the continent’s rich history and cultural heritage, showcasing around 300 objects exploring the intertwined aspects of culture and belief with the lives of African kings and queens. The exhibition will be curated by Hélène Joubert, Head Curator of the African Heritage Unit at Musée du Quai Branly.
