Cairo-Based Libyan Artist Nour Jaouda Recieves CAS Collections Fund
Frieze London 2024 acquired Jaouda’s ‘Dust that never settles’ (2024), which will be shown in the Hepworth Wakefield collection.
Cairo-based Libyan artist Nour Jaouda has been named as a recipient of Frieze London’s CAS Collections Fund. Frieze London 2024 acquired Jaouda’s work ‘Dust that never settles’ (2024), which will be represented in the Hepworth Wakefield collection. The work is made up of dyed fabrics and pigments on canvas, made of earthy hues, blues, and ochre yellows. The work evokes meditative visual landscapes representative of religious ritual.
Based between Cairo and London, Jaouda’s work - made up of mostly wall hangings and tapestries - focuses on themes of destruction, creation and repair, as well as on colonial histories and modern geopolitics.
The Contemporary Art Society’s (CAS) Collections Fund was founded in 2012 to acquire significant contemporary artworks for CAS museum members across the UK. It draws together museum curators and private collectors to ascertain its acquisitions.
