You Now Need To Pay EGP 1,000 To Issue An Egyptian Passport
This is a significant increase from the previous price of EGP 250.
During today's plenary session, the House of Representatives has finally given its approval to amend certain provisions of Law No. 97 of 1959 concerning passports. The amendment entails a significant increase in the passport issuance fee from the current EGP 250 to EGP 1,000.
The revised legislation replaces the first paragraph of Article 8 in Law No. 97 of 1959, specifying that the form of the passport will be determined by a decision from the Minister of Interior, with the approval of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The amendment also empowers the authorities to determine the validity period, specifications and the fee associated with obtaining a passport. The fee can now exceed EGP 1,000, in addition to other fees mandated by existing laws.
