The Heritage Commission announced 500 new sites in the urban heritage register, increasing the total to 4,540 sites across the Kingdom. These sites reflect the rich historical legacy of Saudi Arabia.
The newly registered sites are distributed across several regions, with Riyadh leading the way with 413 sites. Makkah follows with 39, while Al-Baha boasts 25 sites. Other regions like Hail, Jazan, Aseer, the Eastern region, Najran, Al-Jouf, Tabuk and Qassim contribute smaller numbers, highlighting the widespread cultural significance throughout the country.
The Heritage Commission’s preservation measures highlight the Kingdom's protection of its historical and cultural heritage through ongoing documentation and exploration of archaeological sites. Their work extends to developing management, conservation, and protection plans for these sites, ensuring their sustainability as part of a broader strategy to enhance Saudi Arabia's reputation as a global destination for heritage and culture.
