New Licenses for Delivery Bikes Suspended Across Saudi Arabia
Following the conclusion of an experimental regulatory phase, new licenses will be issued once new regulations are established.
Spokesman for the Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA), Saleh Al-Zuwayed has announced the suspension of the issuance of new licenses for motorcycle deliveries through mobile applications until new regulations are established.
Previously licensed motorcycle delivery companies operated during an experimental regulatory phase, which has now concluded, according to Al-Zuwayed. He also noted that security forces have arrested several delivery motorcycle drivers in Riyadh for lacking work permits or violating traffic safety regulations.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for delivery services through electronic platforms surged, generating significant investment opportunities and job growth in this sector. The light freight transport activity grew by 38% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2023. Currently, there are 300 official licenses for light freight transport, with 80 companies providing delivery services through applications.
