Integrated Services for the Elderly Launched at Grand Mosque of Makkah
The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque has introduced new services for elderly visitors, including electric shuttles and specialised prayer rooms.
The General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque in Makkah has introduced a range of services to create a safe and accessible environment for elderly worshippers.
Key features include electric shuttle services located in the eastern square, which transport elderly individuals from the Gaza Bridge to the Al-Salam Basement. This facilitates easier navigation of the mosque's expansive grounds. Additionally, large electric vehicles are available to assist during the Saa'i ritual, transporting worshippers between significant areas like Safa and Marwah. These vehicles are stationed at strategic points, ensuring safety and support for the elderly during their movements.
The mosque has also established dedicated prayer rooms for elderly individuals and those with disabilities, situated in the King Fahd expansion near Gates 91 and 64. Enhanced accessibility measures include ramps and signage at specific gates like Gates 68 and 90, designed for electric vehicles.
To further streamline access, multiple bridges and elevators, including those at Ajyad, Al-Shobaika, Al-Arqam, and Al-Marwah, have been implemented to allow elderly pilgrims to fulfil their religious obligations.
