Plans for a USD 25 billion metro megaproject in Saudi Arabia have been revealed, promising to be the largest metro project to be completed in a single phase.

The new Riyadh metro will comprise six metro lines and 84 stations, capable of transporting 1.7 million passengers a day from initial operation, with the capacity to reach 3.6 million passengers a day.

The King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport, set to commence before the end of the year, also plans to include 2,860 bus stops spanning 80 bus routes, with 842 buses in operation.

Blueprints show that the new network will connect the King Khalid International Airport, King Abdullah Financial District, downtown Riyadh, and several universities. All metro stations will be fully automated and air conditioned upon completion, with Wi-Fi, select shops and car parking.
