Madinah Bus Expansion Will Establish 500 New Statons by 2030
The joint venture between Egis and Systra will implement vital services including BRT, priority buses and feeder services.
Following its launch during Ramadan 2024, Madinah buses are set for a new expansion. The new project, announced by the Madinah Region Development Authority, aims to establish up to 500 stations, providing a transport coverage of 80% to 90% of the Holy City by 2030.
In 2023, seven shuttle bus routes were announced to transport people to and from the Quba Mosque. These stations included the Sports Stadium, Durrat Al-Madinah, Sayed Alshuhda’, the Islamic University, Al Khaldiya and Bani Harithah Neighborhoods.
The major expansion aims to enhance the public transport system ensuring easier travel for residents and pilgrims, whilst reducing traffic congestion and creating pedestrian-friendly areas near the Prophet’s mosque.
The new expansion is a joint venture between Egis and Systra who will implement vital services including BRT, priority buses and feeder services. They will also be responsible for handling safety and security management for systems including buses, depots, operational systems and civil works including bus lanes, stations and stops, footbridges and park-and-ride facilities.
