Suez Canal Authority Dedicates Museum Gallery to ‘Ever Given’ Ship
The gallery showcases images, films and stories commemorating efforts to free the enormous 224,000-tonne vessel.
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has dedicated one of the 12 galleries in its new museum to the Ever Given and the 2021 Suez Canal obstruction, when the massive 224,000-tonne cargo ship blocked the canal after it ran aground and nearly caused a shipping crisis around the globe. The gallery will showcase images, films and stories prepared by the SCA to commemorate the legendary effort that was exerted in clearing the obstruction.
Ever Given’s grounding into the bank of the Suez Canal in March 2021 became headline news as the 400-metre-long vessel blocked all traffic through the Suez Canal, causing significant delays in trade between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
The gallery has been inaugurated in the new Suez Canal Museum in Ismailia, which is now open for free during a soft opening phase throughout the month of Ramadan. The museum features around 2,000 artefacts within its 12 halls, telling the history of the canal and surrounding areas over the years.
