New 'Coffee City' Will Be Built in the Kingdom's Al-Baha Region
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to elevate Saudi Arabia's coffee production capabilities.
Bean for your buck? The Kingdom’s Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has announced plans to establish a new ‘Coffee City’ in the Qalwah Governorate of the Al-Baha Region. Covering an expansive area of 5,545,744 square metres, the project is set to transform the southwestern coast of Saudi Arabia into a hub for coffee cultivation and production.
The ministry has officially opened the bidding process for contractors interested in participating in this landmark initiative, with a deadline for bid submissions on September 9th, 2024. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to elevate Saudi Arabia's coffee production capabilities and is expected to add 300,000 new coffee trees. The plan aligns with the Vision 2030 objectives, which include not only diversifying the Kingdom’s economy but also localising coffee production.
The new ‘Coffee City’ is expected to play a pivotal role in these expansion plans, providing the infrastructure and support necessary to boost local production and meet the growing demand for high-quality Saudi coffee.
