Ministry of Health Forms Committee to Review Drug Prices Biannually

In a bid to bolster oversight and regulation in Egypt's pharmaceutical sector, the Ministry of Health and Population has instituted a new measure - the formation of a committee tasked with reviewing drug prices every six months.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry, revealed this development during his attendance at the African Medical Conference and Exhibition in Cairo. The committee, chaired by Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held its inaugural meeting last Thursday, signaling a proactive approach to drug price control. This initiative is particularly significant amidst reports of potential drug shortages, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring accessibility to essential medications.
To streamline the process of pricing adjustments, the Egyptian Drug Authority has announced plans to expand its review capacity. Specifically, the authority intends to increase the number of drug classes evaluated weekly, enabling a more dynamic response to pricing fluctuations. These proactive measures are poised to enhance transparency and stability in Egypt's pharmaceutical landscape.
