In 2023, Egypt’s digital exports increased 26% from USD 4.9 billion to USD 6.2 billion, according to a statement by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Additionally, it was reported that outsourcing exports, exports managed by an external service provider, grew by 54%. The sector’s contribution to the GDP rose to 5.8% in the 2023/2024 fiscal year as a result, compared to only 5% in the 2022/2023 fiscal year. These increases are in line with the governmental plan to make Egypt more attractive to investors and boost the country’s economy.

Under the ‘Haya Karima’ presidential initiative, it was noted that fibre optics were connected to 9.3 million buildings nationwide. It was also noted that Egypt moved forward 49 spots on the Government Artificial Intelligence (AI) Index, placing the country in Classification A in the Digital Government Readiness Assessment published by the World Bank for 2023, rather than Classification C in 2018.

In future efforts to localise the information technology industry in Egypt, the Minister of Communications expressed plans to increase the number of mobile towers to 35,000 in 2024.
