As part of the Saudi Green Initiative to protect biodiversity and prevent erosion of the green cover in coastal areas across the Kingdom, The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification will plant over 200 million mangrove trees across Saudi Arabia by 2030.

With more than 10 million mangrove trees already planted along the Gulf areas and the Red Sea coast in Saudi Arabia, the project will also include the restoration and preservation of the existing mangrove population by transforming their respective areas into national parks in an effort to promote ecotourism in the Kingdom.
