Wassim Halal and Polyphème have released a bold new album titled ‘Le Rêve de Polyphème’, a continuation of the sonic exploration Wassim began with ‘Le Cri du Cyclope’. This new project expands on the innovative approach to rhythm and time, featuring six tracks that push the boundaries of traditional darbuka playing. Halal's mastery of darbuka techniques, developed from his deep roots in Lebanese wedding music and Turkish romani influences, takes on new forms here, as the instrument is manipulated in ways that challenge expectations.

The collaboration between Wassim Halal and Gamelan Puspawarna has evolved into a fully-fledged ensemble that melds the rich sounds of the Balinese gamelan with Halal’s dynamic percussion work. Together, they create a hypnotic interplay of rhythms that swirls through the listener's senses, blending traditional darabuka sounds with the shimmering textures of the gamelan.

‘Le Rêve de Polyphème’ plunges listeners into a unique sonic landscape where haunting leitmotifs and daring improvisations converge. The album continues the ensemble’s singular dialogue between the Balinese gamelan and Middle Eastern rhythms, exploring unfamiliar territories with each track. This synthesis of influences makes ‘Le Rêve de Polyphème’ an evocative and experimental experience that elevates the darbuka from its traditional roots into new, uncharted spaces.
