This Cloud Bakery Makes Eye Candy Edible

With Delicieuse, you can traverse the culinary expanse of Eastern Europe in a few bites.

Layla Raik

Tired of seeing authentic Eastern European desserts get butchered by local bakeries? We are too. When we see a dessert like that, one that typically rests confidently in its ethereal, but nonchalant beauty, made to be less than what it’s supposed to be, it simply breaks our heart. At this point, we’ve primed ourselves for disappointment, so when we came across a cloud bakery called Delicieuse, we were nearly in disbelief.

Founded by a Palestinian woman living in Egypt, Rafeef Zaqout, Delicieuse was “born out of a passion for baking and a desire to share delicious European-inspired desserts with the world,” as the founder expressed to SceneEats. “A lot of our desserts are European because of our fascination with European baking traditions. I sought to master them, and brought them to Delicieuse.”

As a result, Delicieuse crafts desserts that are both beautiful, in their own right, and delicious. Their ‘strawberry pistachio dream cake’, for example, is a picturesque extravaganza covered with fluffy cream, strawberries and pistachio. Their Karpatka, a traditional Polish pie filled with some vanilla-buttercream-resemblant filling, makes for a delicious exploration of a culture we, frankly, don't know much about. But we’re getting to know it experientially - through cuisine. Zaqout’s favourite, however, comes hailing from Spain, “My favourite Delicieuse menu item is the San Sebastian cheesecake. Its rich, creamy texture and perfectly caramelised top make it just irresistible to me.”

“We curate our menu by selecting recipes that put a unique twist on classic flavours - so that each dessert is both familiar and exciting. But that's not all - seasonal ingredients, and customer preference, also go into the equation.”

According to Zaqout, Delicieuse tends to draw in natural explorers - people who prioritise not only quality, but also variety. People who are constantly searching for more. Delicieuse, like them, also continues to search for more. Currently, the patisserie functions online, through a delivery basis, and participates in occasional bazars, but there's hope for more. “In the future, we hope to be able to participate in more events, and maybe even open a walk-in shop for our customers to enjoy the Delicieuse experience more fully. We're also exploring the possibility of offering baking classes and workshops to spread our love for baking with the community.”
